Agustin Martinez-Gallegos Obituary – The identification of a man who tragically lost his life after falling into an elevator shaft on Tuesday in the south suburbs has been released. The victim, a 23-year-old individual, was involved in a work-related accident at a building located at 225 Maple Street in Joliet, according to the police. The Will County Coroner has identified the deceased as Agustin Martinez-Gallegos. The specific cause and manner of death have not yet been reported.

According to the investigation, the man was among a group of employees on the building’s second floor who were moving cabinets into the elevator. Unfortunately, while inside the elevator, it began to ascend and became blocked by a cabinet, preventing the door from closing properly. In an attempt to escape, the victim became trapped between the elevator floor and the ceiling of the second floor. Tragically, he fell into the elevator shaft, sustaining grave injuries.

Emergency services were called, and the Joliet Fire Department transported the man to Silver Cross Hospital. Regrettably, he was pronounced dead at 4:32 p.m. The Joliet police believe this incident to be an accident, as no evidence of foul play has been found. However, investigations are ongoing.

In addition to the local authorities, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OHSA) has also announced their involvement in investigating this tragic incident. It is important to note that the building initially identified as belonging to Joliet Equipment Corporation is not associated with the company anymore. At this time, no further information is available regarding this unfortunate incident.
