Alton Kelly Obituary – Police in Washington, D.C. are still in pursuit of the driver responsible for a fatal hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of a man who was pulled through a parking lot.

The victim, identified as 62-year-old Alton Kelly from Southeast D.C., was tragically killed in the accident. Reports indicate that a white Ford Taurus was traveling eastbound on the 2800 block of Alabama Avenue SE, passing Naylor Road on Wednesday just after noon.

At the intersection, Kelly and his wife were walking across Alabama Avenue, either in or near the crosswalk at Naylor Road, when they were struck by the driver. Kelly was dragged beneath the vehicle and across a parking lot, eventually coming loose from under the car several hundred feet away on the 2900 block of Denver Street, SE. Kelly’s wife, whose identity remains undisclosed by authorities, sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital.

Victor Sanchez, an employee of a construction company working on Denver Street, recounted hearing a noise, initially mistaking it for the car hitting a traffic con Upon realizing the situation, Sanchez attempted to stop the driver, urging them not to flee. Unfortunately, the driver did not heed the warning and continued driving away.

Alva Kelly, the victim’s twin sister residing in North Carolina, expressed her devastation over the loss of her brother. She shared that Alton had lost his eyesight 15 years ago due to complications from medication prescribed for conjunctivitis.

Alva described her brother as a hardworking individual who persevered through medical challenges to provide for his family. She emphasized his love for his family, his faith, and his dedication to his roles as a father, husband, and brother. Jestine McCall, a resident of the 2900 block of Denver Street, noted that remnants of the hit-and-run incident were still visible in the area, highlighting the impact of the tragic event.
