Christopher Junkin Obituary, Death; California man killed by police at Crookston homeless shelter identified

Christopher Junkin Obituary, Death;  – The man who was shot by Crookston Police at a homeless shelter last weekend has been identified by his family as Christopher Junkin from California. Junkin was fatally shot on the evening of June 30 during a response to a fight at the Care and Share homeless shelter.

Chief Darin Selzler stated that Junkin was confrontational towards the officers and did not comply with verbal commands, leading to the use of “non-lethal rounds” before one officer fired the fatal shot. Despite attempts to save him, Junkin was declared dead at the scene.

This incident marks the second time in recent months that Crookston police have fatally shot a civilian, following the death of Andrew Dale on May 16. Junkin’s niece, Amanda Elliot, has set up a GoFundMe page to raise funds for Junkin’s cremation and to bring him back to his family in California. Described as having a kind heart and giving great hugs, the fundraiser has collected $245 out of its $10,000 target. Junkin is survived by three children, and any excess funds will be directed towards them.
