Christopher Ryan Junkin Obituary, – Family members have identified the man who was shot and killed by police at a Crookston homeless shelter late Sunday night as Christopher Ryan Junkin from California. Police responded to a report of a fight at the Care and Share Homeless Shelter just before midnight on June 30. Upon arrival, officers found Junkin inside, behaving combatively and not following commands.

Despite attempts to use non-lethal methods, officers resorted to firing a handgun, resulting in Junkin’s death. His family expressed deep sorrow over his loss and mentioned that he is survived by children, a nephew, and a niece. A GoFundMe page has been set up to raise funds for his cremation and transportation back to California, with any additional funds going towards his children.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is currently investigating the incident, and the name of the involved officer has not been disclosed. This marks the third fatal officer-involved shooting in Polk County this year, following similar incidents in January and May.
