Jesus Cota Obituary, Death; 3 teenagers arrested for death of 16-year-old boy

Jesus Cota Obituary, Death;  – Three adolescents are currently detained, facing multiple felony charges in connection with the killing of a 16-year-old. Jesus Cota, 16, was discovered deceased in the Pajarito Mesa by county deputies. The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office was alerted to the incident on Sunday, May 19. The BCSO’s homicide unit conducted an investigation, linking several individuals to Cota’s death. BCSO reported that Cota had succumbed to gunshot wounds.

On Thursday, June 27, three individuals were apprehended by law enforcement. Among them was a 17-year-old who was taken into custody and placed in the Youth Services Center. The other two suspects, 18-year-old Daniel Garcia and 18-year-old Mariana Gomez, were also arrested and booked into the Metro Detention Center. Their charges include first-degree murder, kidnapping, robbery, conspiracy, and tampering with evidence, as per BCSO. Sheriff John Allen of BCSO expressed concern about the rise in violent youth crime in the community.

“It is disconcerting to witness the audacity displayed by some young individuals who engage in serious criminal activities without any regard for the consequences,” Allen stated. “This case not only ensures that those accountable for a tragic loss of life are held accountable but also highlights the challenges we encounter with juvenile crime in our community.”
