Jose Manuel Zapata,Scott Thomas Novotny Obituary, 2 dead, 3 hospitalized after serious crash on Hwy 20 in Lincoln County

Jose Manuel Zapata,Scott Thomas Novotny Obituary, – Two individuals have passed away, and three others are in the process of recovering from severe injuries following a collision on Highway 20 on Monday evening, as per the Oregon State Police.

Shortly after 6:30 p.m., emergency responders were dispatched to a three-vehicle accident on Highway 20, close to milepost 30, to the east of Toledo. According to OSP, an inquiry revealed that a westbound Toyota Rav4 attempted to overtake a Dodge Ram 2500 towing a trailer and collided with an eastbound Acura TL. This collision led to all three vehicles coming to a stop on the highway without control.

The Toyota’s driver, identified as 29-year-old Jose Manuel Zapata from Portland, was pronounced dead at the scene. OSP mentioned that Zapata was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. The Acura’s driver, identified as 34-year-old Scott Thomas Novotny from Newport, was transported to a local hospital. Unfortunately, Novotny passed away later at the hospital.

A passenger in the Toyota, as well as the occupants of the Dodge, were taken to nearby hospitals with severe injuries. Their current medical status remains unknown. OSP has indicated that the crash is believed to have been caused by an unsafe passing maneuver. Highway 20 was shut down for approximately six hours while the investigation was ongoing.
