Joseph McKinney Obituary, Officer 26, killed in shooting identified

Joseph McKinney Obituary – The community in Memphis, Tennessee is honoring a fallen officer who tragically lost his life during a shootout on Friday. Officer Joseph McKinney was fatally wounded in the line of duty following an exchange of gunfire with two suspects near Geeter K-8 School.

McKinney became a member of the Memphis Police Department in 2020. At the age of 26, he is survived by his wife and daughter. Before his career in law enforcement, McKinney was employed at Chick-fil-A. The restaurant where he previously worked on Summer Avenue in Memphis released a statement expressing their sorrow: “We were deeply saddened to hear of his passing earlier today. If you knew Joseph (Rusty), you undoubtedly loved him. Many of us had the privilege of witnessing his growth from a young man to a police officer, a husband, and a father. His memory will always hold a special place in our Chick-fil-A family.”

A fundraiser has been set up by the Memphis Police Association Charitable Foundation to support McKinney’s family. Contributions can be made here. The individuals involved in the fatal shooting on Friday have been identified as 18-year-old Jaylen Lobley and a 17-year-old. Lobley was also fatally wounded in the incident, while two other officers sustained injuries.
