Laquavis McCray Obituary, Death;  – Tragedy befell a family as an Atlanta teenager drowned due to being pulled underwater by a current at a Georgia beach. Authorities were alerted to the incident at Tybee Island’s Back River Beach in Savannah at approximately 11:45 a.m., where three individuals were swept beneath the waves.

While two of them were successfully rescued, 16-year-old Laquavis McCray could not be found, as reported by WANF. Following an extensive search by game wardens and marine patrol, McCray’s lifeless body was discovered several hours later. Anita, McCray’s mother, recounted receiving the devastating news of her son’s passing while on duty at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

“My heart sank when I heard the news,” she expressed. “I was informed that my child had tragically drowned, carried away by the strong current.”

She mentioned that it was McCray’s inaugural trip to the beach and that he had never swum before.

“If you lack swimming experience, it’s best to remain close to shore,” McCray advised. “Stay in shallow waters where you can feel the waves at your feet, and exercise caution. Do not succumb to peer pressure or persuasion.”
