On Wednesday, authorities were alerted to a gunshot detection signal at approximately 5:41 p.m. in the 7100 block of South King Drive in Greater Grand Crossing, as stated by Chicago police.

Upon arrival, they located a 15-year-old boy near the road with a gunshot injury to the head. He was transported to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. On Thursday, the medical examiner confirmed the boy’s identity as Phillip Mitchell. A suspect was apprehended, according to police. Local detectives are currently conducting an investigation.
