Cpl. Jacob Johnson,Lance Cpl. Eduardo Hernandez Zambrano Obituary – The two individuals who lost their lives in a collision involving a semi-tractor trailer on Interstate 5 near Camp Pendleton last week have been identified as U.S. Marines stationed at the base.

Cpl. Jacob Johnson, aged 21, and Lance Cpl. Eduardo Hernandez Zambrano, aged 19, were confirmed as the deceased in the accident by military and county authorities. Both were members of the 1st Maintenance Battalion.

The tragic incident occurred shortly before 9 p.m. on Thursday, April 25 near the Cockleburr Road overpass. As per the county medical examiner, the two Marines were heading southbound on I-5 when their vehicle lost control and collided with the parked trailer on the shoulder. Despite wearing seat belts during the crash, both Johnson and Hernandez Zambrano had to be rescued from the vehicle and were later pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.

The medical examiner determined that the cause of death for the two servicemembers was due to multiple blunt force injuries, ruling the manner of death as accidental. However, the reason behind the loss of control of the vehicle is still being investigated. Authorities suspect that Johnson, who was driving the sedan, was speeding before the collision. In a statement provided to FOX 5/KUSI, a Camp Pendleton spokesperson expressed deep sorrow over the incident and assured that every effort is being made to assist those affected by this tragedy.
