Desiree Jones Obituary, – A 32-year-old woman from Belleville, Desiree Jones, tragically lost her life in a crash that occurred at 12:20 a.m. on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at the intersection of Michigan Avenue and Lilley Road in Canton Township. The incident involved a white Chevrolet Malibu driven by Jones and a red GMC Acadia driven by Maurice Griffin, 37, from Ypsilanti.
Jones was fatally struck head-on by Griffin’s vehicle. Griffin, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries, was charged with several offenses including second-degree murder, operating with a high blood-alcohol content causing death, reckless driving causing death, operating with a suspended license causing death, and operating while intoxicated for the third time. Griffin was arraigned at 36th District Court and given a $1 million cash bond. The case is set for a probable cause conference on June 21 at 35th District Court, followed by a preliminary examination on June 28.
