Edwin Macias,Aaron Cervantez Obituary, Death; – Two individuals lost their lives, and two others sustained severe injuries following a high-speed collision on Friday night in southwest Amarillo. The incident resulted in damage to nine vehicles, and a subsequent crash occurred involving a police vehicle on its way to the scene.

The Amarillo Police Department reported that at approximately 8:57 p.m. on Friday, June 7, officers were called to a major crash at the intersection of 45th and Soncy. According to APD, a black 2001 Chevy Tahoe driven by 23-year-old Dawson Pemberton was traveling northbound on Soncy at a high speed. Pemberton ran a red light and collided with a white 2008 Cadillac CTS heading west on 45th, causing the Cadillac to spin.

The driver of the Cadillac, identified as 18-year-old Edwin Macias from Dimmitt, was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the Cadillac, 20-year-old Aaron Cervantez, also from Dimmitt, was ejected from the vehicle and succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Another passenger, an 18-year-old from Dimmitt, was rushed to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Pemberton was also transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Following the initial collision, the Cadillac struck two more vehicles, but fortunately, no other drivers were harmed. APD confirmed that a total of nine vehicles were damaged in the crash.

Justice of the Peace Kyle Balke has ordered autopsies to be conducted. Speed and alcohol have been identified as contributing factors in the collision, as per APD. Moreover, an APD vehicle en route to the crash was involved in an accident with a pedestrian who entered Soncy Road. The Department of Public Safety Troopers were called in to investigate the incident.
