Leonard Blum Obituary, Man 89, of Gurnee killed in car crash identified

Leonard Blum Obituary – Leonard Blum, an 89-year-old man from Gurnee, has been identified as the individual who passed away due to injuries sustained in a crash in Warren Township on Saturday. Blum was a passenger in an RAV4 being driven by an 88-year-old woman who was attempting to make a right turn onto Stearns School Road from Route 41.

At approximately 2:15 p.m., the RAV4 and a car driven by a 20-year-old woman from Richmond, who was attempting to make a left turn onto Stearns School Road from Route 41, collided with each other, resulting in minor damage. According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office police, it is believed that the RAV4 driver mistakenly pressed the accelerator instead of the brake, causing the vehicle to accelerate at a high speed. As a result, the driver lost control and collided with a utility pole on Stearns School Road near Fuller Road, which is the first road west of the intersection where the initial crash occurred.

Both the driver and passenger of the RAV4 were transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the other car, a Forte, was uninjured. Later that evening, the Lake County Coroner’s Office was informed that Leonard Blum had been pronounced dead in the intensive care unit. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team is currently investigating the incident.
