Manuel Garcia Obituary, Death – The second victim in a deadly shooting near the University of Nevada, Reno on Aug. 1 was identified Friday. Manuel Garcia, 15, died of multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office. Stefan Howard Jr., 17, is charged with open murder in the death of Garcia and a second victim, Santiago Rodriguez, 17. Both boys were shot multiple times and were pronounced dead at Renown Regional Medical Center.

The shooting happened in the early morning hours of Aug. 1. UNR added extra patrols following the shooting but said it never believed the public was at risk. The Reno Police Department said it believed the three teens had interacted with each other before shots were fired.

The Washoe County District Attorney’s Office is charging Howard as an adult. His bail hearing in Reno Justice Court was pushed to Monday to allow time to find an attorney to represent him.

In Nevada, a minor can be charged as an adult if the person is at least 16 and is being charged with a felony.
