Ahmir Jolliff, Obituary, Sixth grader killed in Iowa high school shooting identified as victim count increases

Ahmir Jolliff, Obituary – The Iowa Department of Public Safety has identified the victim of the mass shooting at Perry High School as Ahmir Jolliff, an 11-year-old sixth-grade student. The tragic incident resulted in a total of eight victims, two more than initially reported.

Among the wounded were three staff members and four students, all with varying degrees of injuries. Perry High School Principal Dan Marburger, who was injured in the shooting, is currently in critical condition and has been praised as a hero for his selfless actions to protect his students. While two students are still hospitalized, the other victims have been treated and released.

The suspected shooter, 17-year-old Dylan Butler, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Responding officers discovered him with a pump-action shotgun and a small-caliber handgun. Additionally, an explosive device was found in the school but was safely rendered inactive. The motive behind the shooting remains unknown, and the investigation is ongoing. The Iowa Department of Public Safety is diligently reviewing digital and social media evidence, conducting background investigations, and continuing with eyewitness accounts and victim interviews.
