Carol Pitzer Obituary, Woman killed by LifeCare ambulance identified

Carol Pitzer Obituary – The woman who was fatally struck by an ambulance at Riverview Plaza on Monday has been identified as Carol Pitzer of Elyria. Witnesses reported that Pitzer, aged 74, was hit by a LifeCare ambulance as it was leaving with a patient following Pitzer’s fall from her motorized scooter in front of the moving ambulance.

She resided at the Riverview Plaza apartments located at 310 East Ave., where the tragic incident took place. Dr. Frank Miller, the Lorain County Coroner, confirmed that Pitzer’s death was a result of a motor vehicle accident and that she succumbed to head injuries. Elyria Police Chief Bill Pelko was present at the scene and mentioned that the department’s crash unit was conducting an investigation.

 

In a statement, LifeCare Chief Operating Officer Kim Mason expressed condolences to Pitzer’s family and stated that LifeCare was fully cooperating with the police inquiry. Witnesses observed the ambulance driving away from the apartments after the accident, heading south on East Avenue. Residents managed to stop the ambulance, which then returned to the complex’s driveway. Pitzer was pronounced dead at the scene, and Elyria police were notified at 3:03 p.m. Personnel from LifeCare, Elyria Police, the Elyria Fire Department, and the Coroner’s Office remained at the scene until approximately 5 p.m.
