James Q. Hampton Obituary, Driver fatally shot by deputies in Memphis after he sped toward them

James Q. Hampton Obituary, – Authorities have identified the man who was fatally shot by sheriff’s deputies during a drug-related search warrant operation in a Memphis neighborhood. The individual who died in the incident has been identified as James Q. Hampton, a 30-year-old man.

According to Shelby County Sheriff Floyd Bonner, the deputies were serving a high-risk drug warrant when a man waiting in a vehicle accelerated towards a SWAT team in the Orange Mound neighborhood. In response, the deputies opened fire, resulting in the death of the driver. Fortunately, none of the deputies were injured during the incident.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is currently conducting an independent investigation to determine the sequence of events leading up to the shooting. As a result of the search, three individuals were arrested and are facing drug-related charges. Additionally, one of the individuals is facing a charge for possessing a firearm during a dangerous felony, while another is facing an additional charge of car theft. The search warrant location was described as a “base of operations” for individuals involved in a drug trafficking organization. During the search, deputies discovered multiple firearms with high-capacity magazines, a handgun equipped with a Glock switch, several pounds of marijuana, Xanax, and oxycodone pills, as well as a significant amount of cash.

Four individuals attempted to flee the scene but were apprehended. The shooting incident is being investigated by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, and it occurred shortly after a separate shooting incident in the same neighborhood where nine people were shot, resulting in two fatalities. Additionally, it took place two weeks after the death of Memphis Police Officer Joseph McKinney during a shootout while investigating a suspicious vehicle.
