Jazmin M. Dietrich, 38, a passenger in one of the three vehicles involved, tragically lost her life in the collision, troopers confirmed. According to troopers, a car traveling northbound in the left lane on Route 222 may have encountered a mechanical issue, leading the driver, Wilson De La Cruz, 51, from York, to attempt to pull onto the left shoulder of the highway. Subsequently, a car driven by Jesus Barrera, 31, from York, rear-ended De La Cruz’s vehicle, resulting in significant damage to both cars.

Barrera then lost control of his car and collided with an SUV driven by Shane Wright, 25, from Ephrata. Dietrich, who was a passenger in De La Cruz’s car and was wearing her seatbelt, was transported to Reading Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead by the Berks County coroner’s office. Officials mentioned that the cause of death remains unknown as an autopsy is pending.

The three drivers and a passenger in Wright’s SUV, who was not identified, sustained moderate injuries and were taken to Reading Hospital for medical attention, troopers stated. Details regarding their medical conditions were not provided. The northbound lanes of Route 222 were shut down for five hours during the investigation. The investigation is ongoing, according to troopers.
