Kevin D Taylor Obituary, Suspect dead following Waynesboro Police-involved shooting on I-64

Kevin D Taylor Obituary – The individual who was shot by a Waynesboro officer on Wednesday on Interstate 64 in Albemarle County has been identified by the police. In a press release from the Virginia State Police, it was revealed that Kevin D. Taylor II, a 29-year-old resident of Charlottesville, was shot and killed by Waynesboro Police after a pursuit along I-64 from Waynesboro over Afton Mountain into Albemarle County.

Following the shooting, Taylor was taken to UVA Medical Center where he later succumbed to his injuries. The state police, at the request of the Waynesboro Police Chief, are investigating the officer-involved shooting. Once the investigation is complete, the findings will be handed over to the Commonwealth’s Attorney for final review and adjudication. The Waynesboro officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave until the investigation is concluded.

The incident began when Waynesboro Police received an emergency call reporting a shooting in the city. As officers were en route to the scene, they spotted Taylor’s vehicle leaving the area. Despite attempts to initiate a traffic stop, the vehicle did not comply, leading to a pursuit that ended with the vehicle crashing into a guardrail on I-64. During the encounter with the suspect, Taylor was shot. The Waynesboro Police Department is continuing its investigation into the incident on Hopeman Parkway.
