Leandro Francisco Chong Obituary – The identification of the man who was shot and killed by police officers during an incident at a home in Homestead over the weekend has been confirmed. The incident took place at around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday at a residence on Sunrise Boulevard.

Homestead Police Captain Fernando Morales stated that officers responded to reports of shots fired and encountered the man, later identified as 33-year-old Leandro Francisco Ledea Chong. Due to the circumstances, the officers were forced to use their firearms, resulting in the death of Chong. No officers were harmed during the encounter, and it has not been disclosed whether Chong was armed.

A neighbor’s surveillance camera captured the sound of the gunfire, prompting the arrival of several police cars. Investigators, including the Miami-Dade Police and their Special Response Team, spent a significant amount of time at the residence on Saturday collecting evidence. It was also confirmed that officers had previously visited the home, including an incident on Friday. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is currently investigating the matter.
