Markeese Turner,Michael Carstarphen – The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office has identified the individuals who lost their lives in the tragic incident as Markeese Turner, Michael Carstarphen, and Trashawn Powers. The shooting occurred during the early hours of Sunday at an adult birthday party at West Jackson Square.
Turner, Carstarphen, and Powers were sitting inside a parked Ford Mustang convertible when shots were fired into the vehicle. Sheriff Chip Simmons stated that the perpetrators parked nearby, approached the car on foot through a yard, and then proceeded to shoot multiple rounds at close range. This was a deliberate and targeted attack, not a random act or a drive-by shooting. Investigators suspect that the incident may have been in retaliation for a previous altercation. Carstarphen, one of the victims, had been released from state prison on April 20 after serving a two-year sentence for fraud, drug, and gun-related charges.
The sheriff’s office has confiscated the car and other pieces of evidence, including cell phones, and is in the process of obtaining search warrants for further investigation.
