Danyale Harris; Mom who tried to kill daughter’s alleged child molester found guilty of murder
Danyale Harris – Danyale Harris, a mother accused of taking matters into her own hands, resulting in the fatal shooting of a teenager, has been found guilty of murder and other charges related to the incident that occurred in March 2020. On March 22, a jury in DeKalb County convicted 42-year-old Harris of felony murder, aggravated assault, conspiracy to commit aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. According to the investigation, on March 31, 2020, Harris discovered a video showing her 12-year-old daughter engaged in a sexual act with a 22-year-old man named Antonio Harley.
Around 3:30 a.m. on April 1, 2020, Harris reported this information to an officer from the DeKalb County Police Department (DKPD). The officer, who was part of the DKPD Special Victim’s Unit, took the report and advised Harris that detectives would contact her. He also cautioned her against acting out of anger or seeking revenge. However, just a few hours later, authorities say Harris drove a large group of individuals to an apartment complex near the intersection of Wesley Chapel Road and Snapfinger Road to confront Harley.
Harris and three others in her group were armed with handguns. At approximately 1 p.m., Harris instructed her daughter to identify which apartment belonged to Harley. Harris then knocked on the front door with the rest of the group behind her. Instead of opening the door, Harley went around the side of the apartment building to see who was there.
Harris and the others pursued Harley, but he managed to enter his apartment through the back door. As soon as Harley closed the door, someone from the group outside opened fire, hitting Harley in the chest. In an attempt to protect himself and his five younger siblings who were inside the apartment just a few feet away, Harley’s brother fired back. One of the individuals involved in the group that accompanied Defendant Harris to the apartment complex was Juan Newkirk, 19 years old.
