Calvo has accepted responsibility for four counts of second-degree murder and will face sentencing on April 9th. The incident took place on February 17th, 2019, when Calvo was driving a Jeep in the westbound direction on Fourth Street. At the intersection of Tustin Avenue, his vehicle collided with a southbound Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. The Santa Ana Police Department (SAPD) investigators determined that Calvo failed to stop for a red light, resulting in the collision.

The impact of the crash caused both vehicles to overturn multiple times. Calvo, along with an off-duty firefighter and his nurse wife, immediately exited the Jeep to assist the victims who were trapped inside the burning pickup truck. According to the criminal complaint, Calvo’s blood-alcohol level was measured at .29, which is more than three times the legal limit. Police described Calvo as being “extremely impaired” at the time of the incident. He was promptly transported to a hospital for additional medical treatment. It is a tragic and devastating event that resulted in the loss of four innocent lives. Calvo’s guilty plea acknowledges his responsibility for the second-degree murder charges he faces.
